Information for students
Howdy and welcome to the students section! We hope you enjoy your time with us and find these pages very useful, informative and above all else, very cool!
If you need help with an educational project concerning issues of captive animals, or even have a few questions that you’d like answers to on the subject of animals in captivity and their unsavoury use for human entertainment, then you’re in the right place!
If all of this information seems a bit too much then please feel free to visit the videos section where you'll be able to view some great films about zoos and circuses. We think you'll be surprised at just how much you'll find out and you get to see actual footage of animals in captive situations!
From the drop down menu you will see the option for 'Factsheets' and above you can see links to the 'Articles of Interest', 'School Speakers' and 'Pictures for projects' sections.
The fact sheets are there primarily to give you the information you need to help with your project, on anything from zoos, circuses and aquariums to the exotic pet trade.
Even if you aren’t doing an assignment on a particular subject you may still be interested to read them as you could even find lots of interesting facts you didn’t even think of, and you will get to discover the shocking reality for the animals! I can tell you’re curious already!
The project pictures are there to help you when you want to illustrate your work, so feel free to help yourself to as many of them as you like! (Here’s a little tip, it’ll make your essay a lot more interesting and the teachers may even give you extra credit for doing it!)
The school speaker section will give you information on what we can offer your school, if we have someone available in your area. This makes an exciting talk about captive animal issues and will go a long way in helping you to understand the surrounding issues and give you good ideas for what to write about. Plus, for one lesson, you get to sit back and listen, rather than slave over a hot pen and paper and finding the information from old tattered books!
Feel free to tell your teacher about what we do and send them onto the special ‘Teachers’ section, which will give them access to lots of information and also some lovely lesson plans which have been written with the student in mind…that’s you! It has to be good!
We are here to help you as much as possible, so if you do have any problems in trying to find the information you’re looking for, or you’d like to comment on what you have found then please feel free to get in touch.
This section is aimed at serving students from the ages of 11-16 but if you are older than that and are studying at a higher level, you should still be able to find the information you need so please do have a look around.
